Internet brings geomatics to personal users

Globalgeo proved that geomatics have now surpassed the barrier of scientific and professional use: their globalization has led to more than 500 million personal users on the web.

Among the conclusions at the International Geomatics Week, which this year formed part of Globalgeo, it was noteworthy that the current GPS signals and the future Galileo system are an increasingly essential part of modern-day society, especially in air and sea navigation, amongst other uses.

Globalgeo was visited by almost 2,000 highly qualified professional visitors, of whom 10% were foreign.

Held every two years, the event will be back again in 2011.

    The excellent attendance figures for the technical sessions, the International Geomatics Week, the GIT/GIS Forum and the meetings between regional councils brought added value to the exhibition area.

    Google’s expert on geospatial technology, Ed Parsons, gave one of the most popular conferences at Geomatics Week, entitled “Geography in your pocket and the clouds”. He explained how geospatial technology on a state-of-the-art web support has been adopted by global communities for both creating and using geospatial data.

  • Presentation of the 3D model of Barcelona

    A highlight of the innovations presented at the event was the 3D model of Barcelona by the City Council, a virtual reality representation of the city, the first phase of which you will be able to see on the Internet in about a year’s time.
